The Country Inn

A small, intimate Country Inn of only twenty six double rooms, four junior suites and one suite, each with its private bath, hot water where you can enjoy a home cooked cuisine, served simply, while you enjoy the view of the Gulf of Nicoya and our private tropical forest.

Relax here in the bright and roomy dining room or in the lecture room during cool evenings ... visit the bar and look for your favorite constellation. Your days can be spend wandering through the 15 acre farm with lake and woods; or you can visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest or the Santa Elena Rain Forest, just a few kilometers away.

In 1953 the first Quakers arrived to Monteverde. In their philosophy nature played a very important part, that's why they were committed to protect all the natural beauty found in Monteverde.

In 1974, from one Quaker, one Costarican and two North Americans the idea of building a hotel is born. The hotel would serve the biologists that just started visiting the recently opened Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve (under the direction of George Powell). The hotel would be named Hotel Montana Monteverde and it would only have 11 rooms, a reading area and a small restaurant. Since then the idea remains the same : A rustic hotel in harmony with the area, home style cooking and the friendship of the "Ticos..." tradition of service that we've maintained all along this time.

Rest, Relax, Bird-Watch

The forests of Monteverde, at an altitude of over 4000 feet, the tropical woods have their special flavor, the air is clear and fresh, the world seems to stand still and the nearby villages and farms appear to be a tropical version of the mountains of Switzerland, is composed of six different ecological communities of plants and animals which differ from those found in other communities and whose diversity is extremely high. Over 2000 plant species are native to the area; more than 320 birds and 100 mammals have been observed. Outstanding species include the Black Guan, Great Gree Macaw, Resplendent Quetzal, Three-wattled Bellbird. Barenecked Umbrellabird, Baird's Tapair, Jaguar and Ocelot. The entire range of the Golden Toad, most brightly colored of all toads, lies within one small part of the Monteverde Cloud Forest.

Special Service

Visitors may enjoy the 15 hec. private reserve. It is a beautiful forest with breath taking view points and trails for the visitor enjoyment including a small pound. The billingual tour guides will take you around the reserve and their schedule is from 8:00 am to 12:00 MD. A maximum of 12 people per group for the forest tours is recommended. You can arrange your whole trip in Monteverde : Serpentarium, Canopy Tours, Butterfly Garden, Guides, Slide Show, Town Tours, Horseback Riding and trips to the Arenal Volcano.

The hotel also offers horses for riding, jacuzzi, sauna bath and conference room. Besides the beautiful nature to enjoy our hotel also have a restaurant with delicious home style cousine and if you want or enjoy a drink you may want to stop by the La Montura Bar.
